Lieutenant Michael Zerr began his career with the Montclair Police Department in April 2001 after graduating from the Rio Hondo Police Academy. As an officer, he served in a variety of assignments, including Patrol, Field Training Officer, Problem Oriented Policing, Narcotics Investigation, and the Detective Bureau, where he specialized in investigating crimes against children and sex crimes.

Promoted to Sergeant in August 2013, Lieutenant Zerr supervised Patrol, the Field Training Program, the Major Accident Investigation Team, the Crime Suppression Unit, and the Detective Bureau. In February 2024, he was promoted to Lieutenant and assumed responsibility for overseeing Patrol, the Mobile Field Force, the Field Training Program, the Police Explorer Program, the Traffic Division, Recruitment, and Community Relations.

Lieutenant Zerr holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from California Coast University. He is a graduate of the Sherman Block Leadership Institute (Class 411) and the Executive Leadership Institute at Drucker (Class 9).

He remains proud to serve the Montclair community as a member of its Police Department and looks forward to continuing his service to the City of Montclair for many years to come.
